SISIC (RBSiC) square beams are reaction-bonded/silicon-infiltrated silicon carbide beams that contain a small amount of free silicon, giving them high density, high bending strength, near-zero firing shrinkage, and excellent dimensional precision; however, their recommended continuous service temperature is generally limited to about 1,300–1,380°C due to the melting point of residual silicon.

RSIC (recrystallized SiC) square beams are made by very high-temperature recrystallization, producing a highly pure SiC skeleton with open porosity; they offer outstanding high-temperature stability and thermal shock resistance and can typically operate up to about 1,600–1,650°C, but their room‑temperature bending strength is usually lower than dense reaction‑bonded grades.
